Peace in the Park

I gathered a moment of peace in the park

as the sinking sun simmered lowly.

I harvested the hues:

sepia horizon, hickory bark,

a tangle of charcoal limbs that leapt at the sky

and fell in shadows on the matted grass.

The windswept field had been darkened by winter
