Stuck in Babylon

I watch you wander on and on…

I’m still stuck in Babylon.

You and I are so alone,

a thousand miles from our home;

a fool in exile, a vagrant vagabond.

I watch the grape grow on the vine…

I watch the water turn to wine…

Bitter fruit tastes so sweet,

my anecdote, my lone retreat,

the only home I find inside my mind.

I watch you running for your life…

I saw you hide away the knife…

We both thought we could see

a different end, a destiny.

Well, maybe one day we’ll get it right.

I watch the mountains rise and fall…

I watch the world, I watch it all…

I’m waiting for my train to come,

when that whistle blows I’ll know it’s done.

Take me home before my name is called.

I watch the wind and wonder where it blows…

I watch the time and wonder where it goes…

I watch the rain erase the solid ground…

We’re all the same: lost and never found.
